We are "Learning How to Read Weaving" with Fırat Neziroğlu
On February 27, we will gather at a workshop where we will "Learn How to Read Weaving", as quoted by Fırat Neziroğlu, the artist who achieved global works with the original and innovative technique he brought to the traditional art of weaving.
Weaving does not just about creating a product by interlocking loops, but maybe it is also about opening doors to entirely different stories. Patiently tying knots on a weaving loom for hours and even days... "Threads came into my life all of a sudden, before I could notice how and from where. Weaving is like life; I cannot move to the next row before completing the first one and when I make a mistake, the trace remains even if I unravel the threads. I cannot see the whole before I complete weaving. Wow... There is still a long way to go, which entails patience. The same as I sit before a loom for 11 hours and weave only as thick as 4 fingers. Do not mistake me for a patient person. I am learning patience from scratch...", says Fırat Neziroğlu.
Much More Than Just a Fair
Presenting thousands of product ranges to sector professionals under the same roof, this year's International Istanbul Yarn Fair offers more than just a fair to both its exhibitors and visitors. A unique information-sharing platform on weaving and fabric design will be established at the fair where visitors and exhibitors will have a great experience. In addition to the weaving workshop, the fair will host its guests at an exhibition hall where the most colorful designs will be exhibited, and become a source of inspiration for all sector professionals.
Who is Fırat Neziroğlu?
The technique introduced by Mr. Fırat Neziroğlu, who continues displaying a modern approach with the light, shadow and gaps he introduced to the traditional weaving art technique in his works, is referred to by the artist's name in the Global Contemporary Art. With regard to this technique that is covered in lectures at the department of textile in numerous universities worldwide, workshops titled "Weaving Like Fırat Neziroğlu" are organized again by many textile communities and associations around the world.
He travels across Anatolia as the Advisor of Wearable Technologies at the Information Valley, reviving geographically marked and forgotten fabrics and looms, providing employment opportunities for women and pondering on how we can contribute to the world for sustainable textile and fashion. Travelling throughout Anatolia and searching for the lost fabrics for 25 years, Mr. Neziroğlu ensures that old fabrics are rewoven in the old style.
As the Advisor of Wearable Technologies at the Information Valley, Mr. Fırat Neziroğlu continues carrying out researches on the biological technologies for natural fibers and providing fabric consultancy for the new clothing to be produced so that Türkiye can own a land in the poles.
